Many outdoor enthusiasts wonder which soap to use while bivouacking to avoid pollution, or what dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent is best. Fortunately, there’s a multi-purpose solution for this: soap!
To minimize environmental impact after your night in the wild, always opt for organic and biodegradable products. A great choice is the traditional and highly versatile Marseille soap, or my personal favorite, Aleppo soap (made from olive oil and bay laurel oil).
Soap for Washing and Laundry
Both Marseille soap and Aleppo soap can be used for personal hygiene and laundry. To wash your clothes, simply shave some soap flakes into your water along with the dirty laundry—this works perfectly!
DIY Dishwashing Liquid
For washing dishes, plates, and cookware, you can easily make your own eco-friendly dish soap:
- Grate about 20g of soap flakes.
- Pour 300ml of hot water over them.
- Mix well and transfer to a bottle.
- (Optional) Add 1 tsp of white vinegar and 1 tsp of baking soda.
Tip: Mix the baking soda and vinegar in a sink, as it may fizz!
This simple, natural, and biodegradable method ensures you stay clean while respecting the environment.
